St. Luke's Quakertown to undergo $400,000 rennovation

QUAKERTOWN, PA (1-24-08) On Thursday, January 24, 2008, St. Luke’s Quakertown Hospital President Ed Nawrocki hosted a press conference to announce renovation plans for patient rooms and new beds which are necessary to support a growing community and enhance patient care. The press conference honored United States Congressman Patrick Murphy who secured more than $400,000 in federal funds to support the renovation project.

POTTSTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA. (January 10, 2008) – Pottstown Memorial Medical Center recently welcomed Michael Zwetschkenbaum as Chief Financial Officer. Michael replaces Jim Wilson who became CEO at Central Montgomery Hospital, Lansdale in the Fall of 2007.

Sovereign reports $1.6 billion loss

Sovereign Bancorp, Inc. ("Sovereign") (NYSE: SOV), parent company of Sovereign Bank ("Bank"), today reported results for the fourth quarter and full year of 2007. As previously announced continued volatility in the financial markets and deterioration in the credit environment had an adverse impact on the fourth quarter of 2007 financial results. For the fourth quarter of 2007, Sovereign reported a net loss of $1.6 billion or $(3.34) per share, primarily driven by goodwill impairments. This compares to a net loss of $129 million or $(.28) per diluted share for the fourth quarter of 2006.

Heller named BEP chairman

Reading, PA, January 23, 2008 – Mervin Heller was appointed Chairman of Berks Economic Partnership (BEP), Berks County’s lead marketing agency for business attraction and retention, during the January 23 Board of Directors and Membership Investor meeting. He will serve a two-year term.

PPL proposes green power program

PPL Electric Utilities filed a proposal Wednesday (1/23) with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission that would give residential and small business customers the opportunity to support the continued development of clean, renewable sources of electricity.
The company has asked the PUC to approve a new PPL Electric Green Power program offered in partnership with Community Energy Inc., a leading marketer and developer of renewable energy.
